Arthur R. Hecht

ARTHUR ROY HECHT, age 67 of Waseca died on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.

Born on November 24, 1950 in Waseca, Minnesota, he was the son of Maurice and Norma (Draheim) Hecht.  He graduated from Waseca High School and also attended the University of Minnesota before enlisting in the US Navy.  He was deployed to exotic places like Adak, Alaska and Guam performing aviation electronic maintenance for a “Sub Hunter” squadron that was stationed in Moffett Field California.  After his military service he attended vocational school at both Mankato Vo-Tech and Faribault Vo-Tech where his studied automotive and small engine repair as well as bookkeeping.  His passion was collecting old cars.  His first car was a 1939 four door Chevrolet sedan.  Most of his late collection was Studebaker of the 1940s and 1950s.

He worked for EF Johnson for a number of years and also worked in manufacturing in Faribault.  It was while he was working in Faribault that he was diagnosed with spinal bulbar muscular atrophy (SBMA), commonly known as Kennedy’s Disease and had to retire early.  He had an extensive library full of his favorite books and hot rod magazines.  Later poor health forced him to move into Colony Court and later to Lake Shore Inn, where he enjoyed visiting with everybody, both employees and residents. 

He is preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by two brothers, Earl and Linda Hecht of Blackduck, MN, and Chris and Kate Hecht of Boise, ID; nephew, Brian Hecht of Waseca; and niece, Jennifer and Travis Stillday and grandnephews Elliot, Oliver, and Wyatt Stillday all of Blackduck, MN.

Graveside services will be held at Immanuel United Methodist Cemetery in Blooming Grove Township on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 10:00 AM.
