Alfred F. Weiland

 

ALFRED AUGUST FRANK WEILAND, age 93 of Rochester, formerly of Waseca died on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Rochester.

 

Born on July 8, 1916 in Finlayson, Minnesota he was the son of Frank and Greta (Schultz) Weiland.  He entered the U.S. Army on March 26, 1941.  During his time in the Army, Alfred served with the Cavalry caring for the horses and later fought on the frontlines.  Following his honorable discharge on October 27, 1945, he lived on a farm near Emmetsburg, Iowa.  He married Mary May Wininger in Jackson, MN and together with their family, moved to Waseca.  Alfred spent most of his career working in carpentry.  He was also interested in mechanical gadgets and worked nearly every day – evidence of his German heritage.  Following Mary’s death, Alfred married his second wife, Henrietta in September of 1968 and she preceded him in death in 1995.   Alfred had spent the most recent years living in Rochester.

 

Alfred enjoyed listening to country music as well as an occasional poker game.  He was a member of the American Legion and VFW and was a former member of the Oddfellows. 

 

Alfred is survived by two daughters, Linda Wilson of La Ceiba, Honduras and Kathy King of Mobile, AL; and four grandchildren, Katya, Jason, Sarah, and Gina.  He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, two sisters-Ellen and Elsie, and four brothers-Otto, Arthur, George, and Harry.

 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca.  Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
