ROGER C. MARKYTAN, age 70 of Elysian died on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato.
Born on January 7, 1939 in Owatonna, Minnesota, he was the son of Charles and Anna (Hrdlichka) Markytan. Roger attended Owatonna High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1960. He married Joan Wagner Beneke on December 29, 1973. Roger was employed with Ulland Brothers for 19 years and later worked as a mechanic for the city of Owatonna until his retirement in 1999. He enjoyed inventing and fixing things as well as working with his metal and wood lathe. Roger was a member of American Legion Post #311 in Elysian.
He is survived by his wife, Joan of Elysian; two daughters, Tammy (Bill) Tyrrell of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Kim (John) Cook of Brooklyn Park; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held at Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 from 5-7 PM and continue on Wednesday, one hour before services at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 PM at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Owatonna.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society. |
