Gordon C. Klaseus

GORDON C. KLASEUS, age 85 of Wabasha, formerly of Waseca died on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at his home in Wabasha.

 

Born on June 16, 1924 in Kasota, Minnesota he was the son of Frank and Tillie (Johnson) Klaseus.  Gordon graduated from Kasota High School in 1942.  He later attended college in St. Cloud before graduating from South Dakota State University with a degree in Ag. Business.  Gordon married Marian Stolz on July 8, 1946 in Cloquet.  Following his schooling, Gordon taught WWII veterans farming and later taught ag at Westbrook High School before entering the banking business.  He worked in ag lending in Westbrook before moving to Waseca in 1965 where he continued his career in banking.  Gordon raised sheep for many years, including a Grand Champion ewe at the State Fair.  He was also an avid golfer, played cards, enjoyed wintering in Arizona and was an avid antiques collector.  Gordon was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Waseca and attended Kellogg Methodist Church.  Gordon took great pride in his years of service on the Waseca County Fair board including serving as chairman for many years.  He had also been active with the Republican Party and served as a “silver haired legislator.”

 

He is survived by long time special friend, Betty Procopio of Wabasha; four children, Tomas (Susan) Klaseus of Honeoye Falls, NY, Jane (Mark) Bartelt of Waseca, Ruth (Don) Grendahl of Apple Valley, and Kim (Jim) Miller of Cedar Falls, IA; six grandchildren, Ryan Klaseus, Brett Klaseus, Jayme Jackson, Reid Bartelt, Jay Miller, and Kory Miller; and one great-grandson, Jace Jackson.  He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Hazel Alfons and Marion Stolz.  He was preceded in death by his wife Marian in 1987, his parents, one brother-Russell Klaseus, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Ruth Stolz.

 

Memorial services will be held on Monday, February 15, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Waseca with Rev. Elden Eklund officiating.  Visitation will be held on Monday, one hour before services at the church.  Private interment will take place at Woodville Cemetery later in the spring.
