LYLE WILLIAM HERMEL, age 74 of Waterville died on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at his home in rural Waterville.

Born on September 26, 1934 in Kilkenny Township, Le Sueur County, Minnesota he was the son of Leonard and Agatha (Meyers) Hermel.  He attended rural grade schools and graduated from Waterville High School in 1952.  He later attended Concordia College in St. Paul. Lyle served in the United States Marine Corp in the Philippines, Okinawa, and Japan.  He married Susan Marie Salmon on November 25, 1961.  Together they lived and farmed in Kilkenny Township.  Lyle was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville where he served in various offices.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; four children, Timothy Hermel of Kilkenny, Todd (Shauna) Hermel of St. Joseph, MO, Tamara (Andrew) Herbes of St. Bonifacius, and Lt. Col. Thomas (Jennifer) Hermel of Randolph Air Force Base, TX; six grandchildren, Danielle Hermel, Paul, Jay, and Rachael Herbes, and Thomas Jr. and Jesse Hermel.  He is also survived by one brother, Douglas Hermel of Kilkenny and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother-in-law.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, 2009 from 4-8 PM  at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville and continue on Saturday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville with Rev. David Mumme officiating.  Burial will follow at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville.
