GALE C. BOYD, age 93 of Waterville, died at the Waterville Good Samaritan Center on Friday, January 15, 2010. Born in Nebraska on November 13, 1916, Gale was the son of Otis and Mina (Wiggins) Boyd. Following graduation from high school, he moved to Minnesota and was a member of the CC Camp in Waterville. On May 14, 1936, Gale was married to Gertrude Gatzke in Wichita Falls, Texas. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1944 and served overseas during World War II. Upon his return home, he attended the Agricultural school in Waseca. He farmed northwest of Waterville for the remainder of his working days. He enjoyed fishing, cutting and splitting wood, modern dancing, playing cards and softball, throwing horseshoes, traveling to northern Minnesota for fishing trips, and snowmobiling. He was a member of the Waterville VFW, and was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-German Lake. Gale is survived by three children, Marlin (Sharon) Boyd, Robert (Beverly) Boyd, and Janis (Roland) Deno, all of Waterville. He is also survived by a very special friend, Eveline Hering of Waterville; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother; and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, January 18, 2010 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-German Lake, with Rev. Van Miller officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00AM until the time of the service at the church. Burial will take place at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville. Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville is assisting the family with arrangements. |
